Happy July 4th!
This won’t work for everyone, but if you can, go ahead and start investing in a few, nice pieces now. Usually, more expensive décor pieces have better quality, and will prove to be good investments in the long run. If you are willing to pay a little more to decorate your apartment, I would recommend sticking to smaller pieces so you don’t pigeon-hole yourself into a theme before you even know what your more-permanent place will look like. Here are some suggestions:
- Rugs – Everyone knows a cheap rug when they see one. Check Room&Board or Crate&Barrel for sales on fun, high quality rugs.
- Accent Chairs and Tables – Key word “accent”. These pieces don’t necessarily need to match with anything else in the room, so you have a lot of flexibility here. west elm and CB2 have some funky options.
- Window Coverings – You’d be surprised at how much a dressed up window can make a room pop. Check out Levolor’s Roman shades if you’re traditional or Roller shades if you’re more modern. You won’t go wrong with these – I know because I make them.
- Knobs and Pulls – These are a nice option for adding color and personality, especially if your apartment doesn’t let you paint. Try Restoration Hardware or Anthropology .
