I am pumped about this week’s topic because it couldn’t have come at a better time for me to pass on my knowledge to other future watch buyers out there. For me, research is key and when I’m shopping for anything, whether it be vinyl record players or watches, I put in a ton of work in before I swipe my plastic.
I just moved back to Southern California and realized I was missing something essential to my toolkit — a watch that was rugged enough to withstand countless washing machine cycles in the pumping south swells, while also being cool enough to go out drinking in. About a month ago I purchased the Casio G-shock GLX-150-7 and I couldn’t be more stoked about my find.
This watch caught my eye for three reasons:
- It has an easy to read tide function. I’m a surfer, so the last thing I want to be doing while paddling through a ten wave set is pushing buttons left and right. The tide feature lets me know when the waves should be at their best and when I should visit the nearest watering hole while I wait for conditions to change.
- It has a long battery life (approx. 7 years). The battery shoots power to the ultra bright blue-black light, which I think is one of the coolest features of the watch. Check out more here:
- The price. The watch cost me $99+tax. To get the quality that’s associated with G-Shock, a dope 2 year warranty and everything I wanted in a year round watch, $100 is an all-out steal.
You don’t need to be a wave worshiper to love this watch. It’s perfect for any rugged person out there.
Try it on for size and let me know what you think in the comments.
