I grew up in the South, but it doesn’t mean I don’t have a healthy appreciation for the beauty of ‘Out West” scenery. Perhaps this apartment upgrade comes with the bias of cold dark winters, but IMHO nothing beats the feeling of coming home to a warm environment. If you can’t have an fireplace in your apartment, here’s a pro-tip on how you can get yourself out to the Rockies, without taking a flight.
Start by stocking up on some birchwood candles. These are great for bring a bit of nature into your living space. Want to get fancy? You can build a fake mantel and embed the candles for a mock-fireplace. Next, find yourself a great flannel blanket (I find that red is the warmest color). Drape this over your couch or better yet, use it. Lastly, head to West Elm and snag a wicker blanket basket.
Now your one step closer to finding yourself, and your apartment, in the Colorado Rockies. There’s nothing like coming back to the warmth and comfort of home, even if it is a dingy apartment in NYC.
