I know, I know, all of you ladies out there wake up looking fabulous and you don’t need to worry about putting on too much makeup. Well, I too wish I could skip on wearing makeup year round, but unfortunately the summer humidity and outdoor activities are not great for my skin. On hot days running errands around New York City, I forego makeup all together, but when I have an big event like a summer wedding to attend, the no makeup stance just usually isn’t going to work, especially with all the photos that are snapped these days.
Luckily for you, I’ve spent some time (okay, a lot of time) figuring out some makeup products that will stay on throughout the whole event, without feeling heavy and cakey or super fake. No one wants to show up at the reception, ready to dance with the cute guy you saw at the ceremony in those chinos, only to realize you’ve got mascara streaking down your face and your blotchy sunburn from last week is peaking through. Here’s some great products I’ve found that should definitely become a part of your summer event repertoire, to keep you Instagram ready at all times, of course.
Mario Badescu Collagen Face Lotion — This is a great lightweight face lotion. Perfect first step to getting your skin wedding ready, while adding a nice SPF 15 to your face. Also, if you’re prone to drying up throughout the day, or you’ll be in the illusive dry heat, keep Mario Badescu’s facial spray with you. It’ll give you a bit of moisture without ruining your make up.
Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer — This vegan/no animal testing/gluten free/low fat (kidding) tinted moisturizer not only pleases the hippie in all of us, but it’s a great light weight tinted moisturizer that lasts as long as any foundation without the plaster face vibe. It’s got shimmer in it too, so it never fails to brighten up your skin and even you out. Plus there’s SPF 15 to give you extra protection from the sun, especially if you’re at an outdoor ceremony. Start with the Veil Primer for extra long wear.
Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener– You’ve probably gotten a little sun over the summer, so you probably don’t need any intense concealer for your under eye circles. But if you’re constantly burning the midnight oil, like yours truly, you’ve always got a little darkness going on there. This eye brightener is great for the summer because it just adds a little pop without having to paint on some crazy concealer.
Bobbi Brown Metallic Eye Shadow in Quartz — (or any color for that matter) Pick up a shimmery color from the array of selection at Bobbi Brown and swipe it on your lids before you hit the wedding. All of the colors stay put through even the sweatiest circumstances, and they’re a pretty light powder so no brush or highly skilled technique needed.
Sephora Contour Eye Pencil (24 hour wear & Water proof) — While I shun waterproof makeup (because it’s so damn hard to get off when you’ve had a few cocktails and you’re trying to get ready for bed), but I’ve recently crossed over to the dark side with this Eye Pencil. It’s got a gel/smokey look, isn’t very thick, and stays put in the summer humidity. There only $9 and come in an array of colors so you can try your hand at some colors beyond black.
Rohto Eye Drops – Okay so back in your wilder, younger days, you probably needed these drops for a different reason, but if you’re like me, between allergies and an air conditioned office your eyes are constantly in need of some additional moisture. I also have perpetual red eye due to some genetic disposition. Put some drops in to keep your eyes pearly white even while you’re sweating it out as the bride and groom say their vowes.
And the jury is still out on Mascara. I’ve been rocking this YSL Baby Doll mascara, and I feel like it stays put pretty well, but admittedly I haven’t put it to any serious test. Anyone out there have any Mascara suggestions? #MakeupAddict in need.
