Casual Blazer
The Do’s: TAILORED FIT (you’ll feel like a million bucks, trust me), 2-buttons unbuttoned, cotton or cotton blend, vents, light window pane or plaid will work, subdued non-traditional colors… I’m talking maroon, brown, grey, etc.
The Do Not’s: black, 3-buttons, peak lapels, velvet, seersucker, gold buttons
Why you need one: you can dress them up or down and they keep you warm (but not too warm)
Where you buy one: Topman, Bonobos, Lands End Canvas
Leather Jacket
The Do’s: TAILORED FIT, brown, worn-in, imperfect, vintage, zippers, extra pockets, buckles
The Do Not’s: blazer construction, loose-fitting, extra shiny, lower than your waist
Why you need one: they’re freaking cool. plus, they serve a functional purpose. oh, and they make you look like a complete bad a**
Where you buy one: Asos
Trench
The Do’s: TAILORED FIT (recognize my obsession?), keep it lightweight, water-repellent cotton, belt, fully lined, khaki or navy
The Do Not’s: car coats, toggle buttons (nothing wrong with these, they just don’t belong on your trench), half-lined, black
Why you need one: it rains and gets chilly in the fall, it’s not cold enough for a peacoat, it’s classier than a Mac/Car/Toggle coat, people need to know you still have style as the weather begins to turn
